Why do you need SafeAP?
As a demonstration as to why you need to secure your text email and web
surfing with some form of encryption the following free software
illustrates how public hotspots can be "sniffed".
Sniffer
Sniffer
will analyze the network and display the images being surfed by users
at
your location, such as at WiFi hotspot or a local area network. Not
only does it display images on the screen at random positions,
Sniffer adds full screen (screen saver style) capability and also provides the option to display web pages in a browser. Available for the Windows, MacOSX and Linux/Unix platforms.
Disclaimer: This tool is useful to demonstrate the vulnerabilities of
clear text communications and is not intended for use at public
locations which may invade users "apparent" privacy. This utility is
just another tool for network administrators similar to other network
analyzers and ethernet packet sniffers. In fact it runs on top of and
requires the popular Ethereal protocol analyzer.
